In some ways Tony's art is a chronicle of our lives. We have been together for a very long time. We started out as friends and are still best friends today. We are very lucky to have this kind of a relationship, one that has as they say "has withstood the test of time."
I was working on a piece of presentation material for next week when Tony is giving a talk to the local Rotary club. I was using one of the hundreds of tools that we have to browse through Tony's images. What struck me was how many pictures there are of us together. Tony is always trying to see if he came make a more interesting image from a scene that is frequently before his eyes. Our shadows as we stand together in many different places is just one example.
Here we are standing together on the Appian Way in Rome. The sense of history fills you with awe. What I love about this image is here is something very old presented using something new. This is one of the ways that technology allows Tony to present his impression of the Appian Way and how he felt standing there on ancient road.
I don't know exactly where we are standing but it was probably one of the roads near our house. I drag Tony out of the house as much as possible. When he is in the "flow" he can work for hours on end on an image. Sometimes he works on the same image for days or even weeks and months. He sometimes puts an image away for a while because he does not like it, but when he goes back he may say "you know this is not bad" and then go on to bring it to some conclusion.
This is Logmill Road. It is one of my favorite walks. It is the rolling hills of Virginia. We’ve seen deer, wild turkeys, and foxes while walking on this road. You have to understand that for two people who lived in New York for many, many decades seeing nature up close like this is truly magical.
