Pinhead hangs on the wall in the downstairs powder room and so I see it several times a day. At night when the only illumination is from the night lights I can still see the image as I pass by. I love this picture.
Pinhead is a superb example of a Techno-Impressionist portrait created by Tony Karp. Here you see how technology was used to create an impression of a face.
Pinhead is actually a three dimensional acupuncture model. Everyone who sees the print wants to touch it because it looks like it is made up of pieces that are actually floating above the page. People have asked if it was printed on fabric.
We spend lots of time talking about how to frame Tony's work and so in this one Tony said I will just make my own frame.
This image could also be classified as a transformation. The image looks nothing like the original item. This is really a beautiful portrait, so different, so interesting and yet I see a very human like person who is a little bit sad. He is thinking about something and that is why his eyes are closed.
