I could make this a guessing game and ask you what do you think this is a picture of, but I won't. It's a perspective of the reliquary head of St Yrieix. There was something about this exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art that made Tony go back and look at it many, many times. Tony uses a process he calls revisionism. Fictional revisionism is defined as the retelling of a story with substantial alterations in character or environment, to "revise" the view shown in the original work. Tony Karp has created artistic revisionism. The images on this page give you a view into what happens when Tony chooses a point in the evolution of a work and take it down a completely different path. Here we have a black and white view of St Yrieix breaking thru to the foreground
This St Yrieix is bold. The tones and the contrasts in the original black and white image are now bursting with a wide range of rich colors. Tony has pushed this picture to the limits. It's complex, it's a favorite of Tony's.
Both these images are of the same subject, interesting how differently they can be presented to you.
