In the process of generating art, where something is done is very important. For instance where do we work on the color of the image?
We can do it when we take the picture, We can do it in the computer and we can do it in the printing.
Each has a different result and a different meaning.
Some of the factors to consider are the amount of control and what will happen if a printer is replaced.
Will replacing the printer render everything Tony has done to this point obsolete?
Tony is always looking for something that will change the way he works. He has found that changing the way he works often leads to ever more interesting images.
So here is an example of what a muse does. Tony says there is a new large format printer on the market. The reviews are good, it is big but I could fit it on my table. But it is too much money. I will probably lose control.
The muse who has been lobbying for a while about how the art would look spectacular in a larger format jumps on the idea. They go back and forth with the Hobbitt saying do it, Tony saying I can't, it is too expensive, it is too much trouble. This goes on for several weeks. In the end the muse prevails.
When the first large format print comes out of the printer we were blown away. The work has a new dimension, but literally and figuratively. All the prints in his latest show in Richmond were done on the new printer. It was his most successful show to date.
