Tony Karp created this image by starting with a photo he took while we were at a reception at the White House. It's a great example of Techno-Impressionism.This image hung in all the Obama campaign offices in Prince William County and in several other offices in Virginia.
It's been a year since my last post. I put away my artmuse hat and put on my organizer hat and working alongside a group of fabulous people here in Prince William County, Virginia made a difference and re-elected President Obama. It was the best thing I have ever done in my 70 years.
Here's my takeaway. An ordinary citizen can make a difference. And I mean you. Every call, every face to face conversation, every voter registered made a difference. Taken together we were unbeatable in a place where we were not welcome, chased, yelled at and so on.
We had something that money cannot buy. We had our belief that as Americans we had to do something to ensure the future of this country. We cared about the children, we cared about each other. This caring and our belief in the future is what bound us. It was this caring that gave Solomon and Tom the strength to canvass for 4 1/2 hours and my brother the strength to make 200 phone calls by himself in one session. I could go on and on.
It does not matter how much anyone was able to do, they were involved and that's what counts.
Getting the President re-elected it turns out is just the beginning. We were able to drive this election and now we need to drive what happens in this country. We know how to do it, remember we just did it.
On January 19th, President Obama is asking all citizens to participate in a tradition his family started in 2009, and spend the day doing service work in communities across the country. Here in Prince William County we are working on a whole bunch of events. We need your help.
"Bravo" to everyone here in Prince William County. What we did was fantastic. We have to keep going!!!!
