Over the years I've written many things about Tony Karp's work. I've often talked about the future of art and art in the future. Guess what! Tony is now creating art in the third dimension by printing on a 3d printer.

You won't need a space on the wall, you can put it on your desk, as a center piece on the dining room table. If you have to go and live in the space lab, on the moon or travel to Mars, it is small enough to take with you.

Tony starts with a two dimensional image. He brings this image into an environment that can render three dimensional objects such as a box with a cover that you see here. The shape is made out of the image. These unique boxes have the image on the front, back and inside of the box and again on the front back and insides of the lid.

What makes this art in the third dimension is that you can hold it in your hand, turn it over, open and close the box, place the box and cover next to each other and see mirror images. And yes the hand on the box is raised.
