Today I read a fascinating article about what is happening to the world of newspapers and journalism. Newspapers are dying right and left. The same thing is happening in the world of art.
A few weeks ago I put together some Tony Karp marketing material and sent it off to a gallery. A lawyer had seen Tony's work and thought it would be something that her friend who owned a gallery would be interested in. This was good, not cold calling etc. Guess what? The package was returned as undeliverable. Calling the gallery didn't work either. It's out of business.
Over the past year or so I have been saying that what Tony Karp and his muse have been doing is the future. Guess what? The future has arrived. My brother, who is a wonderful artist has discovered the world of on-line art. He's not a technologist, but a very smart person. Once he started to explore the on-line world he has been posting his work in lots of different places. He is writing about art.
What's the point? Artists today don't need brick and mortar galleries, and they don't even need on-line galleries. They can self promote their art. This makes their art more affordable which in these economic times is a good thing.
There's more. The other day the New York Times published a story about how artists are turning their living rooms into galleries. We've turned our whole house into a gallery. We started doing that two years ago.
Our ability to create or appreciate art is one of our finest qualities as human beings. Art that is well done will make you feel good, will lift your spirits.
We encourage all artists to get on-line, publish your work, write about your work, or anything you like. It will help people get to know who you are and add to the appreciation of your work.
Today's image is a portrait that Tony did of me. It's my on-line persona almost everywhere. It's occurred to me that it's also my facelift or Botox treatment. But more than anything, it is the essence of me. People who know me easily recognize that it's me. The great thing about it is that it won't wrinkle like me or grow old like me. It is yet another treasure that my artist Tony Karp has given to me. Thank you my love!
PS Move back from the screen, it's a different picture when either seen from a distance or seen in a small size. It's art that makes you think.
