About these images
Here are two pictures made from a skull that I bought Tony one year for his birthday. It was a long time ago and he wanted one because he was trying to learn how to draw and as is his way, he wanted to understand the anatomy of what he was working on.
What prompted me to choose skulls today was reading that Damien Hirst has unveiled a diamond-encrusted human skull worth £50m - said to be the most expensive piece of contemporary art. So if skulls are in this year, here are two you can have for a relatively small amount of money.
These are not diamond-encrusted but their attribution makes for an interesting story. Diamond encrusted skulls are about money. Tony's pictures are about contemporary art. Affordable art, art made for your enjoyment, mind and eye candy.
Tony put the skull on the scanner and hit the scan button. And voila, now he had a image in the computer. And now he is able to pick up his virtual brush and begin to paint.
Both these images are made from the same starting point. Both these images went through many, many iterations. Both these images are examples of how technology provides the software tools to create art. When you use a word processor you are using a software tool to help you communicate. Tony Karp uses software tools when he creates his art. His body of work is called
Techno-Impressionism
Musings of a muse
As the marketing director for Techno-Impressionism it is my job help you enjoy Tony Karp's work and to help in your understanding of Techno-Impressionism. There's an analogy between what this muse does and what Theo Van Gogh brother to Vincent Van Gogh did. Theo must have had the same kind of conversations I have when he tried to explain Vincent's work. It was so very different. Tony's work is so very different. The whole idea of
Techno-Impressionism is so different.
If people can accept a diamond encrusted skull that may only have been conceived by the artist and not actually created by the artist (I can see him sitting there gluing the little diamonds to the skull), then they should be able to accept Techno-Impressionism, an art movement made possible by today's technology. Tony's vision and creativity was enabled by the software tools he uses and resulted in these two very different, very interesting images.
