I read somewhere that even though we may be long out of school and beyond what we read or hear or what people tell us if we listen with our minds we will hear our "teachers". I hear my "teachers" telling me to do everything I can to protect nature to protect our environment.

This spring, nature is really displaying her stuff. The flowers in our backyard and on the apple trees are incredible. People who saw are tulips said wow! Nature has enchanted Tony Karp, my artist. The result are these beautiful images. He's removed all distractions and what you are left with is the shear glory and beautiful of nature.

If we don't protect the environment there is a good chance it will disappear. Maybe not in my life time but in my granddaughters. Nobody knows for sure.

And so Amelia, Jennifer P, Jen R, Prem, Mark, Doug, Gene, Kathleen, Estaffany, Brian and I worked very hard to bring environmental awareness to our community by staging a Celebrate Earth Day in Haymarket event. We filled the town with people, including lots of children. It's a start. We lined the street with lots of vendors that sell products and/or services that are friendly to the environment.

It really, really is up to us. Each and everyone of us to do what we can to protect the nature that produces the beauty displayed in this post.

The government is not going to project the environment for us. Sorry to say, but that is the reality. It is up to you and me to do simple things like turn off the lights, make sure your heating and cooling is energy efficient, stop using harmful chemicals to clean and to kill things like clover. It's the big chemical companies that made clover bad. They just want to sell you chemicals. Clover is part of nature, part of the food chain. We should ask the bees what they think.

I could go on and on. Enjoy the flowers, but remember what they represent. Take a little step today toward protecting the earth. For now it is the only one we have.
