This horse lives up the road from us. It has very unusual coloring and looks up when I walk by with music playing from my BlackBerry.
Here's a different view of the same horse.
It is an example of Tony going back to an image, picking up a particular version and taking it down a completely different path. If Tony worked in real media (a canvas, brushes and tubes of paint) he might not have found this new path and we would not have this image to look at. It's methods like this that contribute to Tony Karp's ability to have such a wide range of styles.
As you wander around his studio/gallery you are hard pressed to imagine the same person did all these different works. As a artist Tony Karp is not limited to one style, one way of working. Tony lives in the world of technology. His control and ability to use virtual media (software) comes from the fact that he designed computer systems and wrote code. He's a fish in water. (After all he is a Karp).
But people like to categorize stuff, I think it helps them understand it. And so we have created a label for all this. We call it
Techno-Impressionism. It is much move than a style, it's a way of working, it's an art movement.
